David Lean, the late British director known best for his Oscar-winning, grand-scale epics Doctor Zhivago, The Bridge on the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia, will be the focus of a month-long retrospective highlighting several of his more modest,
studio-based films in honor of the centenary of Lean's birth. Kicking off the first of ten films recently restored by the BFI National Archive and Granada International are Great Expectations (1946), and Brief Encounter (1945). 7p.m.; 2nd film 9:10p.m., $7.
